There are so many sentimental moments that I get to be a part of as a Bay Area photographer. From backyard weddings, to luxurious engagement sessions. Yet surprise proposals have to be some of my favorite shoots I get to be a part of! From the raw emotion of the surprise, to the intimate celebration. And when Ben and Laurel got engaged in Half Moon Bay, I was able to document all of that for this wonderful couple.

Ben flew his long-time girlfriend, Laurel, out to San Francisco to be tourists for a couple of days. While Ben has done some work in San Francisco, Laurel hadn’t been before so this was his opportunity to bring her and show her around. Ben worked with The Yes Girls to plan his perfect proposal and then surprised Laurel with an intimate beachside proposal at sunset at Venice Beach in Half Moon Bay with a beautiful view of the cliffside Ritz-Carlton. Under a gorgeous floral arch put together by Sonora based florist Laurel and Vine, Ben got down on one knee and asked Laurel to marry him and she said yes! It was such a beautiful proposal and I’m so glad I got to be there to capture it!

When it is time to have your proposal, whether it is a surprise or not, I suggest working with a planner to create the perfect scene. Not only does it add to the experience of having a proposal, but it also will ease your stress and help calm nerves.
